I want to leave," said Beth firmly. "I don't need a bunch of public-school snobs ruining my engagement party." It’s surprising that some authors/critics attempt to undermine Archer’s talent. His vocabulary is too simple, they say. Plot sequence is entirely too linear, they say. What they don’t understand is that he is foremost a STORYTELLER with the innate, almost intuitive, manner of weaving believable characters, relatable dialogue, and most importantly, outstanding plots. A murder attempt goes wrong, killing Nicholas, which gives Danny the chance to escape prison in the guise of soon-to-be-released Sir Nicholas Moncrieff. From there begins Danny’s journey for revenge and redemption. The one thing that I liked about Jeffrey Archer was stout character building but this novel is full of lame characters . Even the character of protagonist was not well built . All other characters were appearing over long intervals .

Well, I am sure, for we do not achieve this by ourselves, but by the strength of StarClan within us.” For me, among all of those, A Prisoner of Birth is one of the best, maybe comparable to those works by Le Carre and Fleming. Archer is definitely better than Flynn, Ludlum and Grisham. Archer is said to be the British equivalent of the American Grisham. I do not agree with this. For me, Archer is better than Grisham. When Danny finally got off his knee, he took her by surprise again. He immediately began to tap a number on his mobile. Beth knew only too well who would be on the other end of the line. It is a great book with absolutely no place for errors. A plot that makes you go 'ooh!' and 'aah!' A must read book for those who prefer crime-mystery novels and for the people out there who think it's boring to read about the court proceedings, trust me this book will make you want to learn the law.

The solicitor he selected, a Mr Makepeace, had demanded five thousand pounds up front, even before he took the top off his fountain pen, and then another five once he'd briefed Alex Redmayne, the barrister who would represent him in Court. Danny couldn't understand why he needed two lawyers to do the same job.” And when the four prosecution witnesses are a barrister, a popular actor, an aristocrat and the youngest partner in an established firm’s history, who is going to believe his side of the story? Oh, I don't know," said the other man. "There are times when I quite like a slut's mouth to be open."

What I liked most is the pace at which the story runs. Probably that is why it is still readable though the plot and the climax are more or less on par (or below!) expectation from a master story teller like Jeffrey Archer. They are both oaks, even if they were planted in different forests. But then, m’lord, we all suffer in our different ways from being prisoners of birth. My lord, if a man cannot express his honestly held views in the Central Criminal Court, perhaps you can advise me where else he is free to state that which he believes to be the truth?” (c) She said yes!" Danny announced triumphantly. Beth smiled as she held the diamond under the light and took a closer look. "Why don't you join us?" Danny added before she could stop him. "Great, let's meet at that wine bar off the Fulham Road—the one we went to after the Chelsea game last year. See you there, mate." No, Mr Redmayne, not my tears. Although I've read that letter every day for the past eight months, those tears were not shed by me, but by the man who wrote them. He knew how much I loved him. We would have made a life together even if we could only spend one day a month with each other. I'd have been happy to wait twenty years, more, in the hope that I would eventually be allowed to spend the rest of my life with the only man I'll ever love. I adored Danny from the day I met him, and no one will ever take his place.” I haven't read the original so I can't tell how faithful it is, but I knew it was about a wrongfully-accused man that is sent to prison and manages to get out and seek revenge. Jeffrey Archer is not a stranger of success, being rated as one of Britain's highest paid authors. Here the talented man decides to pay homage to Alexander Dumas, creating a book similar in many cases to the legendary 'The Count of Monte Crisco.' The plot and characters were so well developed. It had so many twists and turns. It was a little predictable in that it's a modern day version of The Count of Monte Cristo, but it was done in such an interesting way I didn't mind. And it's even better than the original classic, if that's possible. Veteran actor Roger Allam brings an impressive range and energy to Archer's historical novel. The tale finds its inspiration in the real-life mystery surrounding adventurer George Mallory, Continue reading »

of loopholes and improbable ideas. One person is shown to impersonate another in every single detail. No suspicions are aroused. Beth flagged down the cabbie as the man Bernie had felled staggered past her and disappeared into the night. I can't wait to start another one of Jeffrey Archer's masterpieces. I thought his modern version of Cain and Abel was good, but this takes it to another level. He is not recognized enough for how smart, modern, humorous, and witty his writing is. This is one of the most enjoyable audiobooks I've listened to all year. I suppose it reminded me of this author's Clifton Chronicles which I also love on audio. Similarities would be the theme of a poor young man trying to get out from under the thumb(s) of the rich. Same guy going to prison for something he didn't do, leaving behind his fiancé, at one point refusing to communicate with her again. Now, the more I think about it, the more similarities I see; yet this story stands on its own two feet. That judges should be shot on their seventieth birthday, and their wives granted a royal pardon and given their pensions by a grateful nation.'

Sadly I have to say that I found this book the weakest among the books I read by Archer . It seemed that Jeffrey Archer ran out of ideas while writing this novel ( A look alike prisoner , seriously ) . Many of the incedents in the novel are needlessly put and these incedentes slows down the pace of the story . This was the slowest moving story by Archer I have ever read . Not a chance," said Bernie raising his glass. "You've only got me this time. To long life and West Ham winning the cup."

He was becoming aware that there was no such thing as over-the-top with Lawrence Davenport, as long as you were talking to Lawrence Davenport about Lawrence Davenport.” Scott Shane's outstanding work Flee North tells the little-known tale of an unlikely partnership ...
