About this deal

Lens sharpness doesn't matter much, but it sure distracts amateurs who confuse lens sharpness with picture sharpness. There are no color fringes as shot on modern Nikon DSLRs, which by default correct any that may be there.

This robust L-series 70-200mm telephoto zoom lens is a favourite with professional photographers, a modern classic redesigned, it’s now even better in bright light and engineered to perform in the most challenging conditions. A maximum f/2.8 aperture offers plenty of control over depth of field and – in combination with a 3.5-stop Image Stabilizer to counteract natural camera shake – makes low-light photography simple. Image quality is excellent, with superb sharpness right across the frame, a great choice for our highest resolution EOS cameras. Benefits Flare and ghost performance is nothing out of the ordinary. You won't see any under normal use, and if you try to blind yourself looking at the sun, you'll be able to excite some. Images from this RF lens are beautiful, with plenty of 'pop' and three-dimensionality, and the sharpness gives real bite to the resolution across the entire frame. This is an even bigger deal when you're shooting on the hi-res bodies such as the Canon EOS R5, as weaknesses in the glass are exposed by its 45MP sensor (especially in the corners and edges, where softness and muddiness generally hide).Seeking the best printer for your business? Hit your productivity targets with inkjet and laser printers that are a perfect fit for any workspace – including home offices. We use Imatest SFR (spatial frequency response) charts and analysis software to plot lens resolution at the centre of the image frame, corners and mid-point distances, across the range of aperture settings and, with zoom lenses, at four different focal lengths. The tests also measure distortion and color fringing (chromatic aberration). The very best protective filter is the 77mm Hoya multicoated HD3 UV which uses hardened glass and repels dirt and fingerprints, and is also multicoated.

Since the lens look relatively straight through the filter, instead of out the corners as a wide angle lens does, there's never a problem. This is made as Canon makes most of their pro lenses today: plastic on the outside for weight and to keep your fingers from freezing to it in the cold, and lots of metal on the inside where it counts. Those are massive advantages for the new RF lens. Because the barrel now extends, rather than focusing internally as its DSLR predecessor does, it's the shortest 70-200mm f/2.8 lens around. It's just 146mm when zoomed down to its 70mm focal length –far shorter than the 199mm of the EF version. While at 200mm it's ever-so-slightly longer than the EF, for travel and carrying around the RF version is a ridiculously compact option that you can even stand upright in your camera bag. This would print 44" wide at this magnification. How did I get these colors? Simply by being observant and setting my 5D's saturation to +2 or +3. It goes to +4. This is exactly how it came from the camera. This means of course it works great on today's 5D Mark II and Canon 7D, but it works just as well on my original Canon EOS 620 from 1987!Bokeh, the feel or quality of out-of-focus areas as opposed to how far out of focus they are, is good. It's very neutral. The newer 2023 edition of the Sony 70-200mm sets out to take everything up a notch or two from is older (and less expensive) predecessor. It is lighter and has can focus much closer - in fact, can deliver 0.5x magnification close-ups. As a full-frame lens, this works on all Canon SLRs, regardless of format. As a professional lens, I will be reviewing this lens on full-frame. E: Electronic diaphragm. Diaphragm stops down only on cameras introduced since about 2007 (see the complete list).

SPORT is for use in a helicopter, sand rail, or motorcycle. SPORT is also OK for hand-holding while still, and intended for use from an unstable platform.

This 70-200/2.8 is lighter and focuses closer than any other 70-200/2.8. Yes, it's at least as sharp as any other 70-200, but when you earn your living with it every day, what really matters is weight and close focus instance All pro 70-200mm lenses are ultrasharp, but that doesn't matter if the subject is too close to get in focus! This is the lens to get for daylight use where you want the lightest, least expensive tele zoom yet still want a fast and excellent lens. It is ideal for daytime sports because of its very fast focusing and great image quality. You don't need IS and don't need f/2.8 for action in daytime. Personally I'm addicted to IS for hand-held shots of still subjects in any light, so I bought the 70-200mm f/4 L IS version for myself. x 450 pixel crop from above image. If this crop is about 6" (15cm) wide on our screen, then the complete image printed at this same extreme magnification would be about 75 x 50." (6 x 4 feet, or 2 x 1.25 meters)! This lens has very little distortion, so Distortion correction is OFF by default. Feel free to turn it on for critical use.
