Walsh doesn’t spend a lot of time on those seven days – rather focuses on their meeting and then offers us snippets. This is a habit that Laurie, the troubled narrator of Ashworth’s discomfiting new novel Ghosted: A Love Story, happens to share.I feel like I heard about a memoir — which I now can’t remember — where the woman’s partner vanished and she of course was very upset, filed a missing persons, etc etc. The field straggled up the steep hill behind our house, flattening just enough at the top to fit a tent. My task, as his lover and wife, to make home a sanctuary and a paradise that he could not bear to leave.

But even though it came naturally now—even though I spoke at medical conferences around the world, gave interviews to news crews, managed a team—I felt unsettled when people remarked on it. After one chance meeting, Sarah ignores the real reason she came back “home,” an ailing relative, to engage in the teenage abandonment of a love affair that is more sugary sweet than steamy.As I furiously read, not even the commotion caused by my 2 year old and 9 year old fighting over a plastic velociraptor could pull me out of it. The story goes back and forth between past and present (past is her POV)and it’s so painful to read. The result was that there was an omnipresent sense of turmoil, leading to one hell of an emotional rollercoaster ride for the entirety of the book. I’m looking forward to more by Rosie, but for now I’ll look at her previous books, written under the name of Lucy Robinson (not the Neighbours character).

I was so attached to this duo — so willing to put aside all reason — because it was all so fucking perfect.

Though she is pretty content to never leave the love nest she and Eddie have built — and he doesn’t seem in a rush to push her from it — Eddie is scheduled to head off on holiday .

Ghosted tells the story of Sarah and Eddie, who, after a whirlwind, weeklong romance, make plans to reunite in a week’s time. It would have been at least slightly more acceptable, if not believable, if Sarah hadn’t just emerged from her recent marriage (I’m talking weeks) without showing any human emotion whether that be rage or sadness. Ghosted provides a narrative in which the “ghosting” is eventually explained by the reveal of several long-kept secrets.
